Wrist Splints

I came into the clinic for diagnosis on Monday 12th May and have been wearing the wrist splints every night since then, I have not really noticed any change in my symptoms and am still experiencing pain in both hands and wrists during the day and night. I understand that the next stage in treatment would be to have injections which would hopefully alleviate the pain and tingling sensations that I am still experiencing.
I look forward to hearing from you
kind regards

You could either try injection next, or go straight to surgery for the neurophysiologically more severe left hand ( I note the symptoms actually feel worse on the right though). The majority of patients in this situation decide to give it a try with steroid injection but we don't have a rigid policy. Read through the figures on the two treatments here on the website again and let me know which way you want to go and we will arrange it. JB

Hi
Thank you for replying to me so quickly, I have now read through the figures and as you have suggested surgery on my left hand then I think that this is a path that I would like to take if it can be arranged, as this looks like a more permanent solution and my mother has had CTS and went down the surgical route with excellent results. As for my right hand I am not sure what to do, but maybe this could be discussed at a follow up appointment prior to my surgery on my left hand as symptoms are worse due to the fact, I think, that I am right handed and use this hand more. Could you please let me know how long I would have to wait and when I would be able to come in for an appointment.
Many Thanks
Kind Regards
Lisa

As you are from Ashford you could go to Dr Varma for surgery at St Stephen's health centre. This would probably take a few weeks and at present is probably (I don't at present have access to the operating schedule for St Stephens so I can't tell for sure) the fastest overall, though there will be one space in Herne Bay on 5th July which is also pretty quick. You could also opt for surgery in orthopaedics at the William Harvey hospital, for surgery with Dr Rine in Herne Bay or, of course, for the private sector. If operating on one side you might think about injecting the other one. We can inject for you whenever you like. JB

Hi
I would like to take the appointment in Herne Bay with Dr Rine on the 5th July please, could you let me know a time please so I can arrange transport. I would also like to be able to try the injection in my right hand as soon as possible and wondered when an appointment would be available for this to take place.
Thank you once again
Kind Regards

I'm afraid I booked someone into that first thing this morning - sorry! Give the SIPC office a call on 0300 123 4419 and see what they can offer by way of injection and surgery and let me know on here. Then we will figure out what the quickest injection route is. JB

Hi
I got through to the SIPC office today who then gave me your office number where I spoke with Emma, I am booked in for Wednesday for my injection on my right hand and am waiting to hear from Emma or yourself regarding surgery for my left on Saturday which would be fantastic.
Looking forward to hearing from you

Almost 5 weeks since my surgery
Hi
My left hand is so much better since the surgery although it does still feel sore at times. I'm not sure if I needed to make an appointment to see anyone after my surgery, please could you advise me if I need to. Emma injected my right hand on the Wednesday after my surgery, which was totally pain free and gave me no side effects whatsoever.
I look forward to hearing from you
Kind Regards
Lisa

We will write to you at 3 months post-op to see how it has turned out. Other than that you do not need to do anything else at present unless you have a problem. You are welcome to chatter with us as much as you like on here n the meantime though. If you can spare the time you could also do me another symptom severity score here on the website (from the My CTS pages). JB

Hi
Came in on Monday for an appointment, am relieved to say that I am going to have my right hand operated on in May after speaking with Emma, I had excellent results with my left hand after the surgery last year. Since Monday my right hand has been really painful could this be to do with the tests?
I didn't get the mail about the steroid trial until I came home on Monday evening from work, I'm sorry that we didn't get the chance to have a chat about it. Please do contact me if you need any information.
Thank you to all of your team for such amazing service
Best Wishes

Nerve conduction studies do not normally have any after effects in either normal individuals or people with nerve problems so I doubt if they are responsible for the right hand pain. There will be more about several reasearch studies we would like tp pursue on here in due course so keep an eye on the site. JB
