I have been given an appointment to have surgery on Oct 6th at Herne bay. I am wondering if it is possible to change this to the weekend of 27/28th of Oct.This is because i will be on half term holiday(i work in school) so will not need to take so much time off work. Also i live on my own at the moment but my son will be home then so be able to help me if needed. It will be easier for me to arrange transport for then too (giving my friend time to get the day off work) Thank you.

It looks like we probably will be able to move this to the 27th October but I will need to confirm with Dr Rine. I will also move this posting and my reply into the Canterbury patient's forum a bit later once you have had time to see this.

OK Dr Rine has agreed this so I've moved surgery to the 27th October with the pre-operative assessment on the same day. JB

Hello again. I had my operation on 27th October in Herne Bay. Progress went well until about a month after the op. I know it has only been 2 months but i am getting pain along the scar and into the wrist. It has gone very hard around the area(i am massaging it with cream several times a day). Sometimes it feels almost like a pin is sticking into it. Is this all normal. Thank you.

No that's quite unusual as a late development as opposed to something continuing directly from surgery. it may just represent the formation of rather exuberant scar tissue - some people do develop more prominent scars than others. We can take a look at it with the ultrasound scanner and check the nerve conduction studies again to make sure that nerve function is recovering OK and provide a baseline for comparison if it continues to get worse. We are pretty heavily booked through January though - I'll have a look tomorrow and see what oppotunities there are. JB

Looks like the best chance for me to see this is tomorrow morning - I'll get the office to try and call you. JB

Didnt get a call. Will be at work from 8am but my son will be at home part of the day to take a msg and can then txt me. Wouldnt be able to leave work without some notice.

Turns out there was only one admin person in the office today and it was an impressively busy day - 42 patients booked and I think 39 of them turned up along with a couple of extras to fit in. I can fit you in in the morning but it sounds as though you may not be able to get away from work. There's also a chance at the end of Thursday afternoon's clinic - any help? JB

hi again. when i saw you back in january regarding my right hand post operation, you tested my left hand again and said that it needed the op done asap. i know you've been very busy but i am wondering when it might take place. i have rung the clinic several times and got told they would contact me but i havent heard anything for some time. if you have any news could you get in touch. thanks.

I think the left hand does need doing but I wanted the right to recover reasonably first - how is it doing now? We also have a bit of a problem in that one of our GP surgeons has had to stop operating because of illness so surgery is a bit stressed at present too. We will probably be aiming to do your left hand in June if the right is better now. JB

Hi. My right hand is alot better now. Thanks. No C T probs. Still got a bit of a hard lump close to wrist which is a bit tender at times but otherwise fine. I wait to hear from you regarding the next op then. thanks

I'll book a slot when I get in to the office on Monday morning then. JB
