what to do post surgery?

Hi. I had surgery 7 days ago. My stitches and cast are being removed in 3 days. Today I started to use my fingers and thumb but it aches. My question is do I need to book physio? My surgeon gave me no advice on this and what happens after the first ten days. Do I need to keep a dressing on it after the stitches are out?

It's hard to give any general advice on that because the policies of individual surgeons vary widely so if I say one thing here your surgeon may well say exactly the opposite. I think it is fair to say that there is no very good scientific evidence that one form of after care after surgery is any better than any other. Hopefully they will tell you what they want you to do next at the time of stitch removal. JB
