Hello
Haven't written on here for a while...Latest update on my hand....On the 6th Dec it will be exactly a year since i had the operation. (which by the way wish i had not had done now). Im now under another consultant for my hand, My fingers are getting stiffer, cant even form a fist that easily anymore, I have now got scar tissue were the surgery took place, i cant stand that part of my hand to be touched, loosing my grasp which is very frustrating sometimes as i am a kitchen assistant, its making my job very difficult at the moment.
Going to have a scan this coming week on my fingers, hes wanting to know if my tendons have swollen, going back for results in Jan... so its just a waiting game at the moment.

Sorry to hear it's no better. Did they eventually carry out the 'injection into the scar tissue' which you mentioned last time? I was talking to an American hand surgeon a couple of weeks ago about this issue of stiffness of the fingers and inability to make a fist which a few people seem to get after carpal tunnel surgery and he thinks this is all attributable to variations on 'stenosing tenosynovitis' - the condition which causes trigger fingers. It may be that patients who have a genetic predisposition to carpal tunnel syndrome are also predisposed, by the same genetic makeup, to get this sort of fibrosis in the tendon sheaths. If that is the explanation however it's still doesn't help us know what to do about the problem. It's possible the local scar tenderness might respond to something like a lidocaine or capsaicin patch followed by further physio but finding someone who has access to those things and is prepared to try them is a bit of a challenge. Thanks for keeping me posted. JB

I'm sorry it's such an endless process of serial waits - unfortunately we all have queues to some extent and they can easily add up to what must seem endless dleays for patients. Let me know how it's going from time to time though please - I'm always learning from these stories. JB
