Three weeks wearing splints

Hi,

I have been wearing the splints on both hands now for three weeks, they appear to have reduced tingling and I can now sleep on my side, but still waking up but less. At first I found them uncomfortable - but now I'm sort of getting the hang of them. Does anyone find the guards difficult to adjust - i either have them too lose and they drop towards my hand and that goes numb or I wake because arm warms up and now too tight and arm numb. Plus, now I have tightness in both forearms. I find it difficult to lift heavy objects or grip, I think this is a result of my wrist being kept at a particular angle through the night. Would the forearm stretches ie forearm extensions increase CPT syndrome?

There's not much in the way of hard evidence that any form of exercise either helps or hinders CTS. The next logical thing to try would be a local steroid injection and we can do that for you if you would like to try it. JB

Thank you for the swift reply, but I'm more concerned about the constant ache and tightness in my forearms which has occurred in the last three weeks, any suggestions please on how I get rid of it without aggravating the CTS?

That may be a part of the CTS, or it may just be a response to several hours of immobilisation in splints at night. (Or it may be something else entirely of course). In the first two cases I think injection is the obvious alternative as it should allow you to dispense with the splint after a couple of days. JB
