follow-up steroid injection appointment

Dear Dr Bland, I left you an answer phone message today, but the receptionist informed me that this is a far better way of communicating. I was assessed by yourself in September 2010 by nerve conduction test and the result came out I believe as 1 for my left wrist, and 0.5 for the right. I was given a steroid injection into my left wrist by Dr Vernon Brown at the Estuary View Medical Centre in November 2010. The symptoms almost totally disappeared and it helped by left arm as well for 6 months. This month, May 2011 about two weeks ago they reappeared with numbness in both wrists at night and in my left one in the morning. They go away if I let my arm hang and shake it. I am a wheelchair user and mum of a 12 kg toddler whom I lift regularly, so I really cannot help using my wrists less. At night I wear splints most of the time and it helps somewhat. I would very much like another injection in my left wrist and possibly in the right to prevent the symptoms getting as bad as the right. But I had quite a lot of palpitaions and elevated blood pressure for a couple of hours after the last injection, so possibly it's not a good idea to have them at the same time. I would very much appreciate an appointment for an injection. Many thanks (name deleted by moderator)

It's probably not unreasonable to inject again if the response was that good last time but I think it would be wise to check your nerve conduction results again too to make sure there has been no major deterioration in nerve function as it is 8 months or so since the previous set. We can arrange those things in parallel so if you would like to call the SIPC office again to book another injection with Vernon and I will send out another appointment for repeat nerve conduction studies. Ok, many thanks for the reply, Dr Bland. The SIPC office say they cannot book me in for an injection until they see that there is a nerve conduction test, so I will wait for that first.

Sorry about that - the website is so new that the girls in the SIPC office have not got used to the idea of checking here for my comments as well as on the main patient database. I am not in Canterbury on a Wednesday or Friday to make changes to the internal system there whereas I can keep an eye on this site from anywhere. I'll send them an email now as there is no reason not to get on and inject at present. JB

Thanks for the reply.I will contact them again about the injection.
On an unrelated matter, I am trying to edit my first forum entry, as I signed with my name and my personal email crops up in all web searches. How can I change that post? Thanks.

I've just checked the functionality of the 'edit' option which appears with each entry and I've used that to remove your name from the first message in this thread. You should be able to make that sort of change to your own messages yourself - let me know if that is not the case JB

Many thanks for that! Unfortunately, the first/orginal forum entry does not have the 'edit' option underneath it, only my subsequent replies do. The only option under the first entry is 'reply'.

OK I'll take that up with the site developers JB
