Split progress

I came to see you yesterday and I am trying the splits as the first option. I thought I would start a post and track my progress, probably more for my benefit! I hope that's ok.

So the first night was a bit strange with both splints on but I did get used to them and had some sleep. I woke up without any pins and needles at all, it was great. Once I was up and started to move around, within the first half an hour I noticed getting some numbness and tingling sensations but only minor. It is worse on my right hand and in my thumb.

Let's hope that things keep moving in the right direction.

That's quite promising. A daily record would be quite interesting to see. Daily symptom diaries have been used quite a lot in medicine for a variety of condictions but I don't think I've ever seen it done for CTS. JB

I will try to complete a daily record, so day 2, didn't have such a good nights sleep, I seemed to be more aware of the splits. I do think it is just a case of getting used to them.

Left Hand - very slight numbness for a couple of hours, I don't normally have much feeling in that hand at all.
Right Hand - this seed to ache more and was painful down the top side of my thumb.
Both my hands were aching when driving.
No pins and needles at all.
Symptoms only lasted for a couple of hours.

I reckon about 4-5 nights is about par for getting used to sleeping with them. JB

Day 3, no pins and needles at all. I didn't wake up but felt like I had a disturbed night, I think my hands were hot. Left hand - very little sensation today, a very slight numbness across the hand but only in the morning. Right hand - again the same sort of numbness. I have also had a tingling on the top part of my thumb, some times it gets stronger but has been there all day. Have been to the doctors regarding the pain in the base of my thumbs, I am having them ex rayed again to see if they can see why they hurt so much.

Ok, so I have failed miserably with the daily updates, pressure of work and holidays put paid to that. Over all, my symptoms have actually got worse over the period of time. Before the splints I was getting pins and needles when I woke up in the morning and some slight sensations during the day. Whilst using the splints I have not had any pins and needles in my hands when I wake up in the mornings, which was great but taking then splints off and all during the day I was getting all sorts of sensations, numbness, pains etc. For a few weeks now I have a constant numbness down the outside of my left thump and get regular tingling in most fingers. For the past week or so I have not used the splints, which has meant the return of the pins and needles at night, although now it is slightly worse. I still have the numbness in my left thumb, that is constant and I am still getting the sharp pain in my thumb joints and muscles. I have also been back to the doctors about these pains and to get my ex-ray results. The ex-rays do not show any wear on my joints or arthritis, so for my age my doctor was impressed. :0)

So in short, I would like to sort out having the injections if I may.
