CTS returns again, this time 13 months
Hello Dr Bland,
After the 3rd injection, July 2013, the CTS problem has returned in my right hand.
Born 1948, now 66, and 2 months ago was put on some blood pressure lowering tablets named INDAPAMIDE 2.5mg, a diuretic. It may be just coincidence, but after taking these tablets for about 3 weeks the CTS problem seemed to accelerate? Has anyone else reported a problem while taking diuretics?
Anyway I now require additional treatment for my right hand, possibly a 4th injection?
Question please:- Do I see my GP and go that normal route or can I book an appointment directly via yourself to have the electrical nerve tests repeated.
Regards
Roy
Diuretics are often used to treat CTS, though there is no good evidence that they work. We can see you again directly to consider further injection and I'll send out an appointment. JB
Hello Dr Bland,
Thank you for your prompt action, very much appreciated.
Being retired I can take any appointment date.
Best Regards
Roy
Update 16th/11/2014 - 5 weeks after 4th injection on 13/10/2014
Attended appointment at Canterbury 13/10/2014, and underwent the electrical nerve conduction tests, unpleasant but bearable. Results indicated a slight improvement from previous tests, encouraging!
Discussed the pros and cons of either a 4th injection or surgery.
There seems to be little historical data available regarding a 4th injection and subsequent problems, but steroid weakening of the tendons is a possible concern, although this is unresolved? Reading available accounts, generally CTS patients are either in remission or have undergone surgery prior to this juncture. Still hoping to avoid surgery, and perhaps add to the data on CTS, I opted for the 4th injection which to my surprise and delight was available and administered at this appointment, brilliant!
Now 5 weeks later I‘ve completed another questionnaire and my CTS hand severity score is an encouraging 1.18 with no functionality impairment.
Perhaps another nerve conduction test after 2 months may indicate if the injection has actually improved matters or just masked the CTS problem?
My sincere thanks to everyone at the CTS clinic.
Regards
Roy
If you don't mind dropping in sometime during the next few weeks while symptoms are in remission it would be quite interesting to check whether objective meaasures have actually improved. It's not something which we get a chance to do systematically. JB
Hello Dr Bland,
When convenient please could you book me in for a remission test.
Thank you,
Regards
Roy
If you are free on Tuesday afternoon I'll be setting up the new ultrasound scanner then so it would be a good chance to try that out too? JB
Hello Dr Bland,
Excellent!
Tuesday 6th Jan, I'm busy until approx.14.00hrs, but will attend sometime after 14.30hrs if that's acceptable?
Regards
Roy
Hello Dr J. Bland,
Re:- new operatives using ultrasound scanner.
What date is the ultrasound scanner tests scheduled for please. I will make myself available if I'm still required as a test subject.
Regards
Roy
5th March in the afternoon. I'll call everyone who has kindly volunteered about a week beforehand and arrange some kind of schedule so that we don't use too much of any one patient's time. JB
Hello Dr. Bland,
3 years after my 4th injection into my right wrist, 13/10/2014, I am still mainly free of any symptoms. The only time I have any slight tingling in my right hand is when I'm driving. At all other times I've basically forgotten there ever was a problem.
I've just completed the online questionnaire for the records.
Thank you again and your specialised team for the wonderful work that you do.
Best Regards
Roy
Good to hear from you again and thanks for staying in touch. Glad it's holding up. Let us know should it ever become a problem again. JB

As usual, thankYOU for keeping in touch. It's so easy to become so focussed on all the patients with recurrent problem that one tends to forget the quiet crowd of people who are OK and just getting on with their lives. JB
