Urgent- Bad Episode

I wish i could but am working at the WHH Tue, Wed & Thurs and cant drive so being picked up and dropped home again. It feels very slightly better this morning with the Ibuprofen but still have limited movement and because of pain. I don't see how I can get to you this week or even next. The hand therapist are in tomorrow at the WHH so I might see if one of them can have a look at it for me... can you do referral or do i need to see gp..

We might be able to speak to them. I'm a bit wary of blaming acute severe wrist pain on CTS - it's just not a usual feature of uncomplicated CTS. Check back on the forum here about mid-morning if you can please once we have had a bit of the working day to look into it. JB

Thank you. Also, when the A&E Dr gently pulled my fingers back yesterday the pain was increased through the hand into the wrist. The pain feels the same I have often had with my CTS but just the worst its ever been. I am wearing my wrist splint today as cannot cope with the pain without it.....will check back later, am also on internal NHS email today.

We have been in touch with one of the hand therapists and we are going to send them a referral. In the meantime they have said if you drop in they will be able to take a quick look at it while it is so acutely painful. If you decide you would like to come and see us in Canterbury then we can arrange that. EK

Hi Jeremy, I spoke with the hand therapist and we both feel it is a bad flare up having slept with my hand bent under me during the night. I have been taking anti-inflammatorys and the pain has eased but not gone completely and my hand/wrist is still weaker than it was before. Pronation/Supination is ok but Flex/Ext hurts in the wrist from the middle outwards towards the thumb side.

I hope to be moving within the next 3-4 weeks out of the area and so have been considering my options. I have decided to have the surgery as I said before but with moving I cannot get it done here at the trust before I go so I wondered if you could send a report/letter to my GP and a copy to me with the results of the tests you have done, including those of the ultrasound findings so as to save me possibly having these done all again if I have to go to another trust for Surgery.

I am also a member of Benenden and plan to ring them Monday to see if they will do my surgery as I am in pain still and the waiting time in a new area with be about 3 - 6 months I imagine, but they will need a referral to this effect and wanted to know if you can refer to them direct or do I need to get my GP to do it once he has received a report from you.

Hope this all makes sense and thanks for getting the hand therapist to speak with me.

I have a space available for surgery on 1st November, created by a cancellation that came in yesterday, if you really want to proceed. I think it might be wise to check the NCS and ultrasound first but I can manage to schedule that beforehand I think. I can of course also provide you with copies of all your records so far to take with you to a new area. As far as Benenden is concerned I am happy to write but whether they will accept a patient from me depends on their policies. I am also slightly uneasy that we do not know who would carry out surgery there. I generally prefer to know who the surgeon is where possible - I'm old-fasioned like that! JB

Sods law.....one day I have tickets for the O2 is the 1st so i cannot make that one. I can come and see you for NCS and ultrasound on Thursday after work, I will finish at 1.30 and could be with you by 2.15/2.30 if you have anything around then or Friday anytime from 10.00am-3.00pm.

Working odd days next week but if you let me have some options I can choose the best one.

No probs...got a date for moving now so will get it sorted then. It is starting to feel a bit better too. If you could send me something of what you have found over the years with the scans etc I would grateful.
