Received Steroid injections
I received steroid injections in both wrists yesterday afternoon. Had the best nights sleep last night for some time, I still have pain, but I know that it is early days as yet. I was very impressed with the efficiency and lack of red tape demonstrated by Dr. Bland's team. in providing speedy treatment and explaining the issues connected with CPS.
Pain much better than it was, but still have pins and needles and the occasional electric shock. Hoping for further improvement with time. Will keep you informed. Many thanks, Anita
Thankyou - post as often as you like on here - we're always happy to hear how people are doing. JB
Hello Dr bland it is now one week since my steroid injections. I still have pins and needles in my finger tips in both hands and an occasional electic shock. My wrists are very week and I wonder if I may have any other problems. What do you think is the next step. On the plus side, I have now stopped taking the pain killers (gaberpentin and co codamile) which were for my back pain, as the back pain is much better. Many thanks. Anita
As it was grade 4 on the right side and there has been, I think, a clear improvement with injection, you could consider operating on the right hand at least. Another, more unconventional approach would be to try a second dose of steroids - though I wouldn't do that until at least 2 weeks have passed. JB
It's now almost two weeks since the steroid injections and the pain that I had in my arms and chest us much better, but I now seem to have a different sort of pain in my hands and wrists, and I have painful nodules on some of my fingers, I wonder whether this is because I have stopped taking pain killers prescribed for the back pain which has disappeared since having the steroid injections. I hate to waste your time but do you think that I should have a repeat of the tests for CPS just to try to clarify what the current situation is. Many thanks. Anita
I would think about repeating the NCS at 6 weeks if there was uncertainty about what was going on with the CTS - we aim to follow people up in some eay or other anyway at 6 weeks post injection so it's convenient to test then if we need to. Nodules on the fingers definitely don't sound like CTS and we always have to bear in mind the possibility that there is another problem present too. At two weeks it would be interesting to see a new severity qustionnaire filled in here on the web - the last one was 1.11.14 so about 5 weeks ago now. JB
Hello Dr Bland, I have just completed the on-line questionnaire . I would like to add I only experience pain in my wrists now, when I am using my hands in various activities requiring wrist movement. Many thanks.
Anita
That's a considerable improvement compared to 1.11.14 isn't it - but not as good as I would like to see ideally. I think we might plan to test you again at about 6 weeks post-injection and have a further think about it then. JB
I'll schedule an appointment anyway. Are there any days we should avoid? JB
Hello Dr bland I have pain in my right hand fingers, and you suggested I should contact you in January. Can I make another appointment to see you. Many thanks Anita.
I can fit you in on Thursday (15th January) morning at 10:00am if you can make that? - no time to send a letter out for that slot I'm afraid. JB
Thankyou. I'm sorry there was as much bureaucracy as there was - there certainly could be much less. With luck the symptoms will susbside almost entirely over the weekend but we'll see. JB
