Carpel Tunnel Surgery over a year

This is my first time on this forum so I'm hoping somebody can assist me in the right direction.I had CTS surgery on my left hand over a year ago and after surgery and I woke up I knew it had gone bad. I instantly had no feeling in my thumb, index finger and my thumb would not oppose. Although the doctor sent me to TP, which was basically exercises, the numbness has spread to my middle and fourth fingers. The back side of my hand is now growing numb too. The thumb muscle has atrophied and all opposition is lost and I do not dare to even try to hold anything in my left hand. In questioning the Doctor he told me that "I would have to live with it!"

I've talked to an attorney but they're not interested basically saying there is not enough money in the case. But I'm not interesting in suing anybody, I'm interested in only having the hospital paying attention to my problem and recognizing their doctor made a mistake and I want them to pay to get my left hand at least workable.

I'm 70 years old, a retired contractor but still or at least did side work, which included brick and stone laying. I've have always used my hands now I have only one that I can use.

I do not intend to get into all the things I can't do not because that list is long. Anybody out there got any ideas what I should do next. I sure could use some ideas. Thanks, JimmyPreston

Do you have before and after surgery nerve conduction studies available? That will give us a start. JB

Thanks for your reply.

That was the first test my doctor sent me to. Apparently the test showed surgery was needed. But none afterwards. The more I talk to people the more I learn. I would also like to have either a ultrasound for peripheral nerve imaging or an MRI. I believe one or both will show a nerve has been cut.

Do nerves ever heal?

I appreciate your comments.

If you can, get the NCS repeated now so that we have objective evidence of whether there has been any change, for the better or worse, with surgery. If you can get an ultrasound examination done by someone with expertise in peripheral nerve ultrasound that is also very useful. From what you posted I take it that the hand feels definitely worse after surgery - is that right? Do you have the original nerve conduction studies so we can see how bad it was? And finally, yes nerves can heal, but in the unusual case of a nerve being cut during surgery they heal better if surgically repaired within a few days. JB
