Splint worked second time round, op not needed
After coming for the consultation in July, I decided to re-try the splint that you asked about but had not seemed to work when I tried it before. I had changed my mouse to a thumb ball type one in the meantime. I put the hand in the splint on a pillow to the side, and this time it seems to have been really sucessful. Perhaps it was the combination of mouse change and splint.
As a result of the improvement I did not have the injection and now presume I should cancel the operation. Can I do that via this message?
I am amazed that the whole hand feels much better, with just a little sensitivity remaining around the tunnel. Its really excellent, thank you.
I notice that you recommend stopping using the splint after a period, and now plan to try that although I do not have a problem with using it.
Thank you.I did wonder about that and will be happy to have another check.
I've deferred the surgery booking for now but I think it would be a good idea to check the nerve conduction studies again just to make sure that it really is improving. Occasionally it can seem to be improving subjectively when in fact nerve function is getting worse. I think this is because most people are predominantly troubled by symtoms which arise from irritation of the nerve - tingling and pain - and for these sensations to be perceived by the brain the nerve has to still be working well enough to carry them. Once it becomes badly enough damaged to stop conducting these messages the absence of tingling and pain can be interpreted as an improvement. It would therefore be wise I think to check again and if you do not mind I will send out another appointment to see me in the post. JB
