Need an appoinment
Hi, I was tested and found to have mild CTS. I have been wearing splints at night and it did help but now even with the splints I am waking up in pain. Last night was unbearable, if somebody had offered me a saw I would of chopped my hands off there and then! Could I please have an appointment so I could try something else? Many thanks, Joanne
I have booked you in for an appointment in 4 weeks time. I will send the details out in the post, EK
Hi, just a query, I have an appointment Thursday as symptoms worsening and just wondered do I have to fill out the online questionnaire again? Its just I did that the first time attended the clinic. Many thanks, Jo
If you just add another symptom severity questionnaire (from the myCTS pages) that helps to track how the severity of your symptoms is changing - you will get the idea when you look at the record it creates. JUst ask if you can't figure it out. JB
Hi, got bit of a dilemma! I am due to have surgery on my right hand on March 12th and had a steroid injection in my left one when I came in to be tested again. Well, my dilemma is that the pain and constant strong tingling seems to have stopped! I still get slight tingling and a weird sensation (it's like little electric shocks) in both hands but have had no pain for a while. I didn't want to cancel op and then it returns and I have to start all over again. I was hoping you could steer me in the right direction. I also have the questionnaire/study form to fill out and its going to look very different from what it was like 6 weeks ago. Sorry to make this so long but don't know what to do, many thanks, Jo
It is a problem that we encounter periodically with injections given before planned surgery. I don't have any real evidence based advice to give. My inclination has been to go ahead with surgery in the neurophysiologically more severe cases and to postpone it in the milder ones. Your CTS had gone from grade 1/1 in April to grade 4/3 in December so that would tend to favour going ahead with surgery but on the other hand it has only been injected once on one side and seems to have responded very well. Ultimately it will come down to a personal choice by you. If you need more data to work with we could re-test in mid February - at which point if it really had gone back to grade 1 or so one might be encouraged to defer surgery - and it would not be too late to cancel at that point. The surgery slot would be filled by someone else. From my point of view what I need most is for as many people as possible who are faced with this interesting dilemma to stay in touch with me and give me follow-up data on how it turns out, whatever they choose to do, so that ultimately I will be able to give better advice than this. JB
Hi, thanks for your reply. Would it be possible to be retested and then if surgery isn't needed someone else could have my slot. Many thanks, Jo
Hi, not trying to be a pain but having rescheduled my surgery today for the 9th April today, I was wondering if you still had the slot for the 16th April? Its just that my husband is off that weekend so would work out nicely(if I have it done). Not to worry if its not available. Just thought I would ask. many thanks for all your help, Jo
The 16th is currently fully booked. If you like I can try and let you know if someone does cancel that day? EK
Hi, can I cancel my surgery that is booked for the 9th April. My hand is fine so I don't think there is any need. Many thanks for all your help. And hopefully I won't be in touch again, just for an update hopefully, all the best, Jo
I'll cancel that when I get in to the office tomorrow but please do stay in touch. As I said earlier this is a tricky situation and the more people we follow up the better we will know how to handle it in future. JB
Cancelled now, but I've kept you on the 'pending' list for a while in case we need to re-instate. JB
it sounds as though it may be getting worse so we'll arrange to see you again as sson as we can fit it in. I'l send out an appointment. JB
