severe pain in left wrist/hand
Hello Jeremy,
I have had surgery on both hands, around 3 years ago? For the last few weeks, pain has been returning in my left wrist/hand and yesterday and today has been unbearable. Driving my car this morning into work was absolute agony! Nothing I do seems to relieve the pain. Do you think this is CTS returning? My hand feels hot and the centre of the pain seems to on the underside of my wrist but radiates through the whole hand.
Is there any chance of being seen and maybe a possible injection, or do you think this could be something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's not unknown for CTS to recur after surgery though it is quite rare. It usually takes longer than this, most recurrent cases being seen 10-20 years after the original operation. There is of course nothing stopping you from developing a completely different problem in the hand. I can re-test it for you and try to figure out if there is any evidence of the CTS recurring but if it proves to be a different problem there is not much I can do by way of treatment as I only treat CTS. I can fit you in on Tuesday next week at 11:00 if you want to do that? JB
