CTS or trigger finger

Hello, I hope I have found the right place to communicate with you! I wrote to you yesterday on another CTS forum and you asked me to move over to your clinic website forum, I hope this is the correct place to be.

I saw you a couple of months ago for CTS tests, the results 2 & 3 left and right hand respectively, and you gave me splints (bed mittens I call them) which I put on at night. Overall much has improved, but of the ring finger of my right hand is very sore all the time, stiff, kind of 'locks' and makes me feel very squeamish (ridiculous I know, but there you go) and is getting worse.

What should I do next please?
Kind regards
Fiona

This is indeed the right place and much easier to deal with than Patient.co.uk - which I only look at now and again. That's a very good description of trigger digit in the right hand ring finger and people who have CTS are at a considerably increased risk of getting trigger digits, though they are separate conditions. You can read about it in some detail here. We only treat CTS in our own clinic but trigger digits can be treated by either local steroid injection or surgery. Looking at who your GP is it's possible they may be able to inject the trigger digit for you. If the practice cannot cope for that then we can get you seen by the hand surgeons, who will deal with it. It's also worth bearing mind that when treating either CTS or trigger digit with steroid injection the steroid sometimes spreads far enough to affect both of them, but I would not rely on this. JB

Many thanks for this. I will get onto my surgery tomorrow morning. The thought of injecting into fingers/joints etc, aghhhh, but I guess I've got to be brave because it's just intolerable now.

I'm afraid the trigger finger injection does have the reputation of being more painful than the CTS injection - but as the alternative is surgery it's probably worth a try. JB
