Symptoms have increased

Since my nerve study test yesterday, my symptoms have increased dramatically. I had a very disturbed sleep last night, despite wearing both splints, last evening was also difficult. How long will it take to settle down?

Nerve conduction tests themselves do not generally have any impact on the symptoms of CTS so it is not possible to say for sure whether this is actually an odd reaction to the test or just coincidence. As I have not heard this story before it is therefore hard to predict how long it will take to settle but you do have quite a bad CTS. Have the SIPC team come up with a date for injection? JB

No, they have not responded yet. I called them as soon as I left the clinic.

The intention is for them to agree a date with you when you call - so was that not possible for some reason? If they have no appointments for a long time we could also inject it in the CTS clinic in Canterbury on Thursday.

If you are having second thoughts about the treatment decision that is fine by me and you are welcome to swap to surgery if you want to go that way and are happy with the 5% complication rate. However, I think we would currently be looking at surgery in about mid-February so even if going for surgery one might consider injecting it in the meantime anyway. JB

They did state, that someone will return my call in a couple of days. I would like to take up the offer of the injection on Thursday, but I will be very nervous! The injection shouldn't cause me any problems driving will it?

Driving - nine times out of ten no problem, but you would not want to be stranded at the Kent and Canterbury if you are the one out of ten so it would be best to either come by public transport or get someone else to drive. We can also discuss whether you want to book a surgery slot too. We should be able to carry out injection anytime between about 9:30 and 12:00 on Thursday morning - just turn up and tell reception you have come for an injection. We will inject your left hand first I think and then you can take a few minutes to see how it feels and see if you are happy to go on with the right one. JB

Thank you! I will be there at around 930, just to get it over and done with. Everyone is so busy at the moment, because of Christmas. It is a gamble I will have to take, there are plenty of chairs to camp out on, if I do get stranded. Getting to the K & C by public transport is a joke from Ashford.

I find the train is best. The K+C is about 10-15 minutes from Canterbury East by foot or a 10 minute walk through town and a short bus trip from Canterbury West. See you Thursday. JB
