Increasing pain

Hello Dr Bland - I had an appointment booked to visit your clinic as my symptoms have become more severe recently. Unfortunately I was unable to keep this March appointment due to a sickness bug but you have kindly sent me another appointment for 2nd May. I would really appreciate your advice as now the pain in my right hand has become very severe. Last night I was in so much pain I was unable to sleep at all. Unfortunately the pain has stayed with me all day and I am dreading another sleepless night. I wear a splint but this doesn't seem to help anymore. I took really strong pain killers but it made no difference. Please can you suggest anything that might help until my appointment.

Best wishes

I'm sorry to write again so soon but here I am at 1 in the morning with so much pain I just don't know what to do with myself. My hand feels as though it is burning in ice! I have been coming to you for the last 3 years and have had 3 injections which have helped. I have never experienced pain like this and it is travelling right up my arm. I am frightened that there will be lasting damage and it will never recover.

It is now Easter Monday - do you know if there is anywhere I can go to get another injection really soon please help me. I am sitting in the dark crying and not sure how much more pain I can take.

Please help me if you can.

I suppose the first thing to say about that is that it may or may not be the CTS. If another condition has developed to cause the pain then it requires diagnosis and treatment for that condition of course. If it IS the CTS then severe pain, in my experience, usually means that the nerve is actually still working fairly well - advanced disease tends to be better correlated with numbness and weakness rather than pain. We need to get you in here as soon as possible so that we can look at it and/or inject it I can manage to fit in another one on Thursday afternoon at 15:30 if you can make that? (20th April) JB

Ok See you then. There's no time to get an amended appointment letter out so just turn up. JB

First of all I would like to thank you for your very prompt response to my cry for help. Two weeks ago I had my right hand operated on and within a few hours most of my cts symptoms had gone. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to Dr Rine and his lovely team for what they have done for me. This morning I had my stitches removed and, apart from soreness in my wrist everything is healing very well. Once again thank you very much and best wishes.

Thanks for update. It's good to hear from patients who are doing well after surgery. JB
