Steroid Injection appointment
I have decided to have my left hand injected please and await an appointment. Thanks
Sorry, Emma, who does the injections in Canterbury, was off ill for all of last week so things were a bit difficult. We could probably do this on Tuesday afternoon, immediately after the bank holiday - could you make that? JB
4:00pm, Tuesday 2nd May - back in neurophysiology at the Kent and Canterbury hospital where we tested you. No time to get a letter out so I'm just posting the details here. See you then. JB
Steroid injection: done
Surgery on right hand: done
Now I have no pain but I still have the tingling in both hands, any idea how long it takes for that to go away, if ever?
Regards SW
For bilateral grade 5 possibly quite some time - grade 5 and 6 cases can continue to improve for at least a year or so after surgery. We saw one yesterday that was still improving 3 years after surgery. As long as it definitely feels better than it did then some persistent symptoms at this point are not a cause for major concern. If there are still significant symptms at 3 months post-surgery we will repeat the NCS to make sure that nerve function really is going in the right direction. JB
my right hand has now healed extremely well and I now have only a slight tingling in my middle finger. The left one, after the steroid injection, is also really good. You were intending to operate on the left one after the right hand was back to "normal". My question is when could this be arranged?
I guess the interesting question is whether it is worth operating on the left side if it has responded really well to injection. It might be worth re-testing them to see how much they have actually changed. Even without injection to the left side it is possible that it may have improved after the right hand operation - we do see this sometimes. I can schedule a return visit to us if you wish. JB
OK we'll be in touch to arrange that as soon as we can. JB
