Advice please
Good morning Doctor Bland
I last came to see you in clinic in February last year. I had injections but can't remember if it was in both wrists, also I'm not sure if it was my 2nd or 3rd lot of injections.
I have been symptom free until about a month ago when I started experience severe pain in my left wrist, I struggle to use it for any activities such as opening things, it hurts to move or bend. The pain particularly seems to be directly below my thumb in the start of my wrist, almost feels knotty inside. I also experience numbness and tingly in my hand and fingers if my wrist is bent for too long. I have been wearing my splint at bedtime which helps obviously because of restricting the movement of my wrist but there is no lasting effects. My other wrist is also becoming painful in the same way. I have been wearing tubigrips while at work which helps a little.
What do you suggest?
I'm not sure I have had pain like this before, usually my carpol tunnel is more about numbness and tingling.
Thank you for your help.
Dawn
Thank you, is there anything else you can suggest to elevate the pain?
Dawn
Without being sure what it is I wouldn't want to make any recommendations beyond a degree of rest and simple analgesics - sorry. I'll get you in ASAP. JB
There's a last minute cancellation at 12:00 noon today (Tuesday) if you are free. I'll email this as well JB
Sorry I'm working today so won't be able to make that, afternoons are better for me if possible because of work and picking my little one up from school.
Thank again
Dawn
Thank you very much I appreciate you fitting me in.
Will it be after 3pm?
Dawn
I think I've put it in at the start of the afternoon clinic but as it's an extra case you will fit in more or less anytime from 1:30-5:00 - though you may have to hang around a bit. JB
Thank you. I realised school will have finished for Christmas by then so I'll be over as soon as I finish work at 1.30.
Thank you again

Actually we say you in November last year when we injected the left hand for the second time. We last injected the right hand, also for the second time in February 16. Some of those symptoms sound a bit like trouble with the joint at the base of the thumb but you are a bit on the young side for arthritic problems. I'll send out a new appointment and we'll take a look at it. I've also added your Canterbury reference number to your registration on the website while I'm at it. JB
