1st appointment at the clinic.
Hello Dr. Bland, My hands are very deformed by Rheumatoid Arthritis so I may have had mild Carpal Tunnel symptoms for a while but I first experienced the severe swelling, numbness and tingling in my right hand in April and found I was even more limited using my right hand, especially, gripping, holding utensils etc. After being referred to your clinic by my GP in May I attended my first appointment yesterday and was given a steroid injection and night splits. On waking I immediately noticed my fingers didn't feel swollen or so numb and the tingling had reduced, now, late afternoon the tingling is still there but I haven't experienced the numbness all day. I am hopeful this improvement will continue.
The injection was extremely successful I only had slight numbness around the thumb area a couple of times in the mornings for about the first two weeks but since then I haven't experienced any numbness or tingling in my fingers and I am able to use my hand and can now pick up small objects. I thought I might have problems with the carpal tunnel because I have had to use a walking stick due to severe swelling in my knee which has virtually incapacitated me when walking but so far my hand has been fine.
Excellent. Now we will see how long it lasts - it's extremely unpredictable of course. JB
Glad to hear it's made a good start. We would like to know how it's feeling about 6 weeks after injection and if you can complete another severity questionnaire here on the website at that point that's even better. Have you noticed anything that might have been side efects from the injection? JB
