Pain following steroid injection
Hi,
My CTS came back in my left hand to a point that wasn't manageable this year. Because it had been 5 years and I wasn't too sure if I could come back via this forum I got my GP to refer me again, they forgot for 6 months and then The referral was to the orthopaedic dept and to be honest by the time I realised I was a bit desperate so went with it.
I saw them yesterday (first appointment) and they did a steroid injection in my left wrist. My fingers were numb by the time I made it to the car park and honestly I'm in agony. This is my fifth (I think) injection and it's never been like this before. It's just after 24 hours Am I supposed to be in this much pain, I've taken ibuprofen and paracetamol and it's not touched it.
Thanks
Charlotte
Thanks for your reply.
Its been better today, as in I don't want to cut my hand off but I don't yet have a full range of movement in my fingers and they are still tingly, I haven't got my grip back either. It's definetly nothing like the other times I have had it done.
Is after 9 tomorrow ok?
I know the name of the consultant that did the injection but didn't get any paper work at all.
No it's very definitely not supposed to be like that. Mark the skin where they injected as closely as you can remember while the experience is still fresh and then come and see me tomorrow morning (Thursday) and we will take a look at it with the ultrasound scanner and see if we can tell what is going on. They may well have injected the nerve. If you know exactly who did the injection that would be useful too and if they gave you the package insert showing what they injected that would be useful too. I would look at it this morning but I'm afraid I have to do a lightning fast clinic and then get off to London to an NHS England consultation meeting - about the treatment of CTS believe it or not. If they have injected the nerve directly then I'm afraid I can't suggest anything that is likely to give immediate relief other than rest - but there is a good chance it will improve over a few days to weeks.
