Had 2 lots injections, pain is back bad as I’ve left too long

We'll send out an appointment. Canterbury traffic permitting I usually get in at about 8:30 am so anytime from then on until 9:00 will work. JB

Had my 3rd injections done mid/late nov....over did it a bit Christmas Eve and pain come back in left wrist for couple of days, but rested it and it went. Been wearing the splints on that wrist every night though as still numbness in nighttime.
Last few weeks my left wrist and arm have been experiencing pain and discomfort, and pain in the thumb muscle(if that’s possible)
Will let you know if it gets any worse

Yesterday I was out in the cold, my hand then wouldn’t warm up right into the night, and now is throbbing still from yesterday and the thumb muscle in particular is throbbing.

How cold did you let it get? It's certainly possble to suffer cold injury. JB

I’m suffering again with my hands, I am wearing my splints all night and left hand is going really numb again.
I’m also experiencing loss of strength in both hands and my left wrist is really hurting from thumb across wrist, I’m struggerling with holding things..and basically they just feel weak

Thankyou, I got the oppointment through the post, numbness is a lot worse, sleep is bad again even though always have splints on, actually waking up with it swollen and very painful.
I’m getting pain all day long in my left arm, and worse if I do anything with that hand, and such pain in wrist and thumb even cutting food or unscrewing lid is painful, changing gear.

I’m really suffering again with pain in left wrist, numbness and feeling cold and aching all the time, even from driving just to supermarket etc
Been wearing my splints almost since last injections and my hands have been fine after last injections until just befor Christmas when started to hurt again.
I’ve been dropping things and feel like lost strength in my left wrist again, dropped a whole tray of roast potatoes out the oven the other day, and simple things like hoovering takes all the strength out of my hand.
Can I come and have them looked at again, think I’m on my 4th injections now so not sure how many I’m aloud to have.

I'll send out a new appointment in the morning. There is no absolute limit on the number of injections in my clinc but such treatment is a bit experimental. We can discuss it when we see you. JB (Booked for 17th Feb)

Hi Jenny, my hands haven’t fared very well with the last injections in feb, my right hand which was my better hand is permanent pain every day, and going numb off a night time, keeping me awake at night. Both of them feel like I’ve sprained both wrists.its becoming to be unbearable again, and constantly resting my hand, right hand is painful to even write with.
I understand there’s not much that can be done at moment with the virus hear and don’t want to be a pain...is there any type off exercises I can do to releave the pain at the moment.

Although people recommend various exercises for CTS (An example set can be found HERE ) there is no really high quality evidence to show that any of them really help. However it is unlikely that most of them will do serious harm so you can experiment with them. Your CTS was physiologically very mild last time we tested it so I wonder if there might be another problem present as well which is also contributing to the symptoms. Ideally we would like to test it again just to check that it has not taken a marked turn for the worse but if not then I think it is quite likely that we woud refer you on to the hand clinic for consideration of both the 'other diagnosis' possibility and consideration of surgery for the CTS if nothing else comes to light. GIve us another couple of weeks until the COVID epidemic settles a bit more and then let me know how it's doing - and if the exercises seem to help. JB

Hi dr bland. I’ve tried the hand exercises and can’t do a lot of them without a lot of pain..I’m in pain all day every day now wearing my wrist straps at night and right hand has been awful so having to wear that all day too as the pain is awful no strength in hads, keep dropping things.im now taking painkillers to help me sleep and again in the night when my hand pain wakes me up..I’m finding I can’t even undo cans, and simple tasks.

I clearly need to see you again and have a think about this. Could you make Friday morning this week. We have no facility to inject that day but at least I can take a look at the NCS and ultrasound imaging and we can have a talk about how to proceed? JB

Yes I can do Friday morning any time...I don’t want to be a pin though or it be unsafe for anyone

As long as you are not obivously ill yourself we can keep you separate from everyone except me and the risk of doing this is probably about the same as a trip out to a supermarket at present. There is a list of additional precautions on the patient information page of the site which you should read. If you are happy with that we will go for 10:00am Friday morning. JB

I come in and had injections in the end of may/beginning of June As my wrists were in such pain,the injections gave me pretty much pain free almost after a day or two.. but although my pins and needles has started to come back at night time now, for the past 3 weeks I’ve had awful wrist pain and see each day they are getting worse..a few drs at your clinic have said it may be something else aswell as carpal tunnel, so can I be referred to see the hand specialist in case it’s arthritis in both wrists please. So far I can bear the pain but it’s slowly getting worse each day and don’t want to leave it till the pain I was in last time

The CTS has always measured as pretty mild so it might be worth getting an opinion from the hand surgeons - though I have to say many surgeons will just take the easy way out and operate on the CTS because that is what you are known to have. I'll arrange a referral but it may take some time in the current climate. JB

Hi Jenny, my hands have got so bad again that it’s keeping me up awake quite a few times through the night, I’ve got pain in them through night as well as going dead. I’m haveing dead hands in the morning and shooting pains in one arm Through the day. I’m having to take ibroprphen through the night not that it dose much.ive left the pain awhile now but it’s getting too much to deal with again now.

Did any appointment ever come through from hand surgery? JB

No I’ve not had an letter yet and that pain is getting terrible but that’s all day pain in base of thumbs, I’m learning to distinguish between the two pains now..both horrid, but hands are freezing up and numb and pain is really bad at night with carpal tunnel..

The pain is awful now and I know if I leave it much longer I will be in so much pain and not able to sleep or work

This morning my right hand was So numb the thumb and first 3 fingers but feeling didn’t come back for 2 and half hours and it felt like the blood was trapped in my hand and it wanted to explode.it probably wasn’t, but that’s only way I can describe the pain and like a burning sensation..this is what’s waking me up to through the night.
The left hand has been going numb but not to this extent and just has the arthritic thumb base pain all day.
Please may I have some more injections for the pain

Hi Jenny, one of my household has come down with a cold so she is having the test tomorrow and results back Friday, so thought I’d let you know as I’ve just found out. So I won’t be able to have injections or come in till after Friday to make sure she is clear,much to my disappointment but best be safe .michelle

Morning Jenny, we had the text back and she’s negative so I’m all good to go. Just had another really bad night with hands.
I appreciate any appointment but can not do Monday morning next week, but afternoon is great or any other time.

I'm sure something will be possible next week but I am on leave so it rather depends on Emma and Nick who are covering the clinics. I'll send an email and Emma will probably see this too. JB
