Second CTS Injection on 7 February 2012
Hello Dr Bland,
It is now two days since I received my second steroid injection from Dr Biggs. There has been a notable improvement in my condition but some symptoms still remain (Slight numbness/tingling at night). I intend to monitor the symptoms and keep you updated. In addition, I will again fill in the online questionnaire in about two weeks. One point, I have a very small swelling on my wrist. It produces no pain or irritation and is not red. If it doesn't disappear in the next week or so, could this be any cause for concern?
Kind regards.
Hello Dr Bland,
Many thanks for your response. With regard to the swelling, it is at least one inch from the injection site and is not prominent enough in colour etc. to document by a photograph. I will ignore it for the time being. As I previously mentioned, I'll keep you updated with any developments.
Kind regards.
Hello Dr Bland,
It's now two weeks since my second injection. The progress is good with a 75% improvement in the symptoms. I only very occasionally suffer from a little numbness or tingling, mainly in my thumb but sometimes at the ends of my fingers. However, I am still wearing the splint in bed. Wearing the splint does not bother me in the slightest, but should I now try sleeping without it?
I previously mentioned a small swelling a little over an inch from the injection site. It remains as before, colourless with no pain or irritation. I will continue to ignore it unless there is any change. I have a follow-up appointment with Dr Biggs on 20th March, so if the swelling is still apparent, I can show it to him.
After what period of time would you advise me to fill in a second Online Questionnaire?
Kind regards.
I think I would try it without the splint for a few days now and see if it remains OK. Another questionnaire at 6 weeks post-injection is what we usually do but you can fill in as many of them as you like on here - one should bear in mind however that the answers are suppose to represent an average day in the last 2 weeks so it probably does not make sense to do it any more often than once a fortnight. JB
Hello Dr Bland,
I'll take your advice and leave the splint off for a while and probably complete the questionnaire in a couple of weeks. naturally, I'll continue with any updates through this forum.
Once again, many thanks for your help.
Kind regards.
Hello Dr Bland,
It is now four weeks since my CTS Injection. The improvement that I have previously reported has been maintained. I have just completed the Online Questionnaire for the second time. My symptoms of CTS are still slight, only very occasionally do I feel a little numbness/tingling in my fingers during the night. The small lump on my wrist is still apparent but continues to give me no pain or discomfort. I have been sent a six week check-up appointment with Dr Biggs on 20 March and will keep you informed of any developments.
Kind regards.
Thanks for the update. Seems we are doing quite well so far. Now I wonder how long it will last. JB
Hello Dr Bland,
In order to continue keeping you updated, I attended my six weeks check-up with Dr Biggs today. I told him that there has been a marked improvement since the second injection and that I'd kept you informed of my progress. I showed him the small lump on my wrist that I've mentioned to you in previous communications, and he didn't think that it was anything to worry about. Overall, he was pleased with my progress.
I have been experiencing the odd slight bit of numbness and as a result, I sometimes still wear the splint at night. However, it does appear to be holding up very well, compared with the first injection.
I will continue to let you know of any changes. Since I first had an appointment with you, I have come to see you on a six months basis. So I intend to make another appointment in June or July, if you agree. Unless, of course, my condition dramatically worsens.
Kind regards.
Now that we can stay in touch through the website we can run things on a more ad-hoc basis - just post a message on here whenever you think there is a significant change for the worse - regardless of whether that is next week or next year - and we will think about it again. I'm not planning on retiring for another ten years so I should remain available for some time. JB
Injection response sounds good so far. If there are no other symptoms associated with the swelling and it is not exactly at the injection site then I would ignore it for now. You could always try to photograph it to document it I suppose - though it is often hard to get ill-defined lumps to show up well in a picture. JB
