Forearm Swelling Post Surgery

I have had two carpal tunnel surgeries on my right hand. I had my first surgery in 2017. I had to have a second surgery in 2018 because I had no feeling in my fingers. The English after my second surgery results were my sensory nerve had no response. So the second surgery was to clean out scar tissue. Post surgery I have numbness in my ring finger. I also have forearm swelling. I never had forearm swelling before I had surgery. I work in manufacturing. I notice when I use power tools that’s when the swelling is aggervatef. My forearm feels like I need to poop it to let the pressures out. I have had this issue from day one of physical therapy post surgery. I would rather have numb fingers than dealing with this swelling!

That's an odd story. If you have all the NCS results and the dates of surgery and any other interventions such as steroid injection I'm happy to have a think about it but it will probably be difficult to suggest anything without seeing the swelling. JB

I had my first CT’s May 2017. I had another emg. I could email the results. The main results of that emg is they couldn’t even get a sensory nerve reading at all. Zero!I had revision CT’s surgery January 2018. I have emg studies before and after all surgeries. My emg studie 5/18/18 results were 1st dorsal isn’t ulnar decr # 15-16Hz. Median studies 8cm to sob 6.3ms 3.6mV. Antecub fossa 3.4mV 46ms. 14cm Dig III 4.8ms 17uV. Mid palm 3.9mV 2.1ms 20uV. Dig I med/rad 3.9/2.3ms 13/13uV. Ulnar studies 8cm to ADM 2.8ms 13.7mV. Below elbow 13.3mV 72m/s. Above elbow 12.8mV 77m/s. 14cm to dig V 2.8ms 52uV. I also had a cortisone injection post second surgery.

Probably best to email me the NCS as it's quite hard to make sense of those. What looks like the median nerve distal motor latency to APB (6.3 msec if I'm guessing correctly) in May 2018 is quite prolonged suggesting a fairly severe CTS - if the sensory potential was absent at that stage it would have been grade 4 - but how does that date relate to the dates of the operations? It was presumably after the first one because you said 2017 for that. JB

Yes sensory nerve was absent after first surgery. I am not sure how to get your email address? I would love to email you all my emg studies. I have emg studies prior to first surgery after first and second surgeries.
