return of the problem

I had both wrists operated on about 7 years ago. This got rid of the symptoms straight away but now they have returned first in my left hand then in my right.
Has anyone else had the problems return after surgery and so many years pain free?

Thanks for your reply, now the task is to find an expert, if i can get past my GP in the first place, he has a tendency to be a bit dismissive on the problem.

Good luck - getting access to someone who knows about this is a bit variable around the UK so ti depends to some extent on where you are I'm afraid. JB
It does happen rarely, so rarely that true recurrences have been little studied and it is hard to find any decent explanation of the mechanism. The time to recurrence in such cases generally seems to be between 5 and 30 years. It is conceivable that the transverse carpal ligament might be gradually reconstituted by scar tissue over a long period of time. Another possibility is that these are examples of incomplete division of the transverse carpal ligament in the first place where in fact all it took to alleviate the original symptoms was the short period of rest required for surgery. Thirdly, it is possible for other diseases to produce similar symptoms so you could actually be getting something entirely different. Diagnosis the second time around is difficult and test results can be misleading so you need to consult someone who is expert in CTS. JB
