CTR surgery 11 days ago

Hello,
I was recently pregnant and gave birth via emergency c section 4 weeks ago. I started developing symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome during my 3rd trimester. My first 3 fingers on my dominant right hand quickly went numb. i was told by my doctors that since i was so severely swollen from pregnancy (i ended up with severe preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome) that the symptoms of CTS would go away once swelling went away after birth. They did not. I had CTR surgery 18 days postpartum. This was 11 days ago. Nothing has improved. I am so numb I cannot properly care for my baby at all. No doctors seem too worried. I live in Canada and was never given NCS before surgery. I have insisted on them now and am on a waiting list which will take a few weeks. Can i send you the results when i get them? I'm very worried about permanent damage as i can barely use my hand at all. Thank you.

I'm happy to take a look but they are often very hard to interpret after surgery if you don't have a pre-operative set. If there has been absolutely no change at all in the symptoms following the operation there are two main possibilities:

a) The nerve was too severely damaged beforehand - in which case this may be a bit early to give up hope for it

b) They didn't do the operation properly - this will be hard to spot on just one set of nerve conduction studies but ultrasound imaging by someone who knows what they are doing might help to sort it out.

Where are you in Canada? JB

It's very scary to think the nerve could be so damaged considering my symptoms came on so quickly over the course of only a month, I live in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? No one here seems to be able to give me any answers and i am beyond frustrated, willing to travel for help.

I know someone in Alberta who might be able to make sense of it, What do the current nerve conduction studies look like? JB

I'm still waiting to get the studies done, frustrated with wait times. I'm less than 2 hours from the Alberta border.
