Update

Just an update my left hand is improving daily since my op on 23rd June. It is a lot stronger although the scar is still a bit tender. I am having the right hand done on the 12th Sept. I played tennis last night and was wincing on most forehand shots. It is now the close season and all being well it will recover in time for my holiday in December in the sun. The weakness in my right hand is much worse than my left was pre- op . I just hope all goes well as tennis is a big part of my life.

Well at least that wasn't too long a wait for the right hand. Also interesting that the left is still recovering 9-10 weeks later. I think people who place significant demands on their hands need to be aware that the healing process after surgery can take quite a while. JB

Hi again, thought I might have something to add.

my hands are both improving still and I now only have a little numbness in my left hand fingers(the one I had the op on).

My tennis is now not far of what it was and I can now compete again with the better players. (Practising Cedric Egby today-Berkshire and Clive Millard tomorrow-Staffordshire, my first "real" doubles match for some time, do you know them, Clive ?).

I still have some weakness in my right hand and it mainly affects my serve and forehand. About a month or two ago they were both very weak, but are getting better.

I am hopeful that things will continue to improve, and that I will not need an op on the right wrist. The scar on my left does not cause me much of a problem now.

You two should obviously play a match! It will be interesting to see if the unoperated side does eventually relapse. I seem to see quite a few people for the 'second' hand at an interval of about 5 years after they have had the first one done but I've never looked at the stats to see if that anecdotal impression is actually real or not. So many tennis players! What about cyclists, are we overly affected by CTS too? Hope your second op goes well, I am getting my right hand operated on soon, so it is good to hear of people getting better.

I am hoping to play within a month or two following the op. I had tennis elbow a few years ago and played with two hands on both wings. I don't intend to push it immediately but I was wondering by being right- handed did I not do enough with my left hand . I did not have any physio on it.

I did try cycling before my first op but I struggled braking. I am afraid to give it another try. Once I've had the next op on Wednesday I will wait until after Christmas and try again but only on quiet roads.

No I don't know these guys. If they play for their counties 60's maybe in the future. That's if I can get back to that level. As we have both had our non- dominant hand operated on it will be interesting for you to see my progress. Hopefully you can get away without an op. I can use a double handed forehand but it's getting my brain in sync. and not forgetting to use both. Obviously my serve will be a challenge.

Hi Clive,

Cedric is over 65s and Clive is 70s so you are obviously too young ! I play in the over 60s and played in the Nationals before I knew about my heart problem. I have played for Lancashire and Kent in the past.

It will be interesting to see how we both progress, there certainly seems to be a lot of variation in how the problem develops.
I played this morning with someone whose wife is contemplating an op, and I recommended this excellent site.

Your hand sounds like mine, but mine is improving. Serve a problem, as is forehand if I have to generate pace rather than using the opponents.

Good luck !

Thanks John, I played tonight and played well once my wrist warmed up. I know that I cannot put off the op and my grip is getting weaker. I have been very fortunate health wise having only broken both my wrists playing soccer. I will keep in touch with my progress. I am having the same surgeon so hopefully by xmas I should be well on the way to recovery. I think this forum has been a nice way for me to vent my fears and concerns which I hope other people can associate with and not feel that they are on their own.
