Update 48 hours following cortisone injection
4 November 2012 - 10:10am
Hi Dr B. As suggested am now using this as means of communication rather than email direct to you. Following injection that relieved the excrutiating pain in my left hand that I had for a week, this is 48hour update as you requested. Have no pain - thank goodness. Have a tingling sensation on top of index and ring finger, also in my palm and right hand side of index finger and left hand side of ring finger. Furthermore, it feels like a burning sensation when I touch these areas.
Hard to be sure exactly what distribution the burning sensation is from that description, The median nerve (ie carpal tunnel) territory is strictly the thumb, index finger, middle finger and the side of the ring finger adjacent to the middle finger. The palm of the hand has it's own nerve branch which does not pass through the carpal tunnel. However not everyone is 'wired up' in exactly the same way and in any case people with CTS do seem to get symptoms outside the 'correct' territory sometimes. I think we sit tight on this for a few days and see what happens. Let me know how it's doing next weekend and then we can see you again on the 12th or 13th if necessary. JB
