Pain in arm

Dr bland I'm not sure if you can help me ? I had a carpel tunnel op.in feb 2012. My hand took a long time to heal as it remained swollen and painful for longer than expected. You asked me to attend your clinic to assess the problem, you scanned it and suggested letting it settle as it was still early days, although it took longer than usual eventually it did return to size.
Now I am having pain in my left arm, it is when I try and move my arm behind my back, when I lie flat the pain appears to be in the inside of my shoulder and upper arm, and radiates down my arm into my thumb and index finger. I have had an xray and no bones are damaged but the pain is still bad. The pain is a sharp stabbing pain on movement. Could it be related to my carpel tunnel ? I have taken anti inflammatory drugs but they do not seem to help ( Diclofenac 50mg)
Thankyou tinap.

If it is predominantly the upper arm with occasional radiation down into the hand rather than being mainly a hand problem which sometimes includes upper arm pain (though I appreciate it can be hard to tell the difference) then it is relatively unlikely to be due to the CTS. I would be quite curious as to whether the CTS did eventually improve on the nerve conduction studies so I can see you to repeat those if you are interested but it is not very likely that I will come up with any startling insights as to the cause of the new symptoms now - how long has it been going on for? Thanks for your prompt reply, My arm has been painful now for at least 3 months, I was hoping it was a simple problem with CTS although I thought it would be unlikely. I would be pleased to have another nerve conduction test if you would be happy to do it. Thankyou tinap
