Following CT surgery I am now suffering from severe stiffness in my right hand with an inability to create a fist shape. This is accompanied by aching from my wrist to my elbow, particularly first thing in the morning? Would it be possible to for this to be reviewed ?
Many thanks
My hand has been stiff since the end of 2023 year but I didn't think it was related, i went to the GP and they referred me to have an Xray to see if it was arthritis however there was no evidence of osteoarthritis or inflammation. I was then referred to the Spire hospital to see a Dr George and he administered an injection . I have the form he completed but it is difficult to read. This was done on the 2nd February this year. This did help for a couple of months however the stiffness has returned and the pain in now up to my elbow. I spoke with a Dr Dinsa at the William Harvey when I was there to review my planta fasciitis and he recommended I contact you as the expert !
Thanks
Kimberley
Also I meant to say that my thumb and first finger are not affected by the stiffness at all ?
I think that leaves me even more confused as to the exact sequence of events - symptoms, injections and surgery, especially as your CTS symptoms scores in August suggested that there were only mild problems with the right hand following surgery. I think we might only get to grips with this properly by seeing you again but we're pretty busy for the next 4 weeks. Who did the surgery? JB
The injection was carried out by a Dr Gerald George, Consultant Rheumatologist and Physician on the 6th Feb 24
I have found his report which said I was tender on palpation of the palmar surface of my right 2nd to 5th MCP joints. There was no triggering of the fingers. I was tender on the flexor tendon pulley of my right thumb.
The imaging report found no evidence of synovitis or tenosynovitis of the flexor or extensor tendons at the level of the distal palm/MCPJ there is hypoechogenic thickening around the middle and ring finger flexor tendons, in the region of the A1 flexor pulley there is no associated increase vascularity at the region.
He injected the right third and fourth flexor tendon sheaths close to the A1 pulleys with a small dose of Depo-Medrone and lidocaine.
My arm hurts at night and by the morning my hand cannot flex.
It would be good if you are able to see me when you are able.
Thank you
So Dr George was treating trigger fingers not CTS. I still think I might need to see yu to get the whole sotry stright so I'll look for some spaces when I'm in the office tomorrow. JB
it was pretty good back in August so is this a new development since then? JB
