Post Operation

Dear Dr Bland,

I duely had my operation on April 6th and all went well. However I am experiencing some numbness in the tips of all four fingers (not the thumb) still and my hand goes cold for no apparent reason. Might this be normal and am I expecting too much too soon.

It is only 5 weeks since surgery. I think the key question really is does it feel better, worse or the same as before the operation - I can't really tell from your message? JB

Dear Dr Bland,

To answer your question I think, on balance, it is better. I can hold up a piece of paper to sing, for example. But I guess that the real test will be a phone call using my right hand for any length of time. It was just the numbness and coldness that concerned me. If my expectations of normallity are too soon, then I understand and do realize that we do not live in a perfect world and the challenge presented by this particular design 'fault' cannot always be totally cured in all cases.
My, generally, protracted phone call to my brother on Friday may well reveal more.

Kindest Regards, Pamela Lead

One would hope for more improvement than that at this stage given your initial grade 3 CTS - it should be as good as the initial response to injection, before relapse. However, as it is at least improving it is probably as well to give it three months post surgery and if it is still a significant problem then we will re-test. JB
