pain in left hand returned

Had second injection in left hand on 1 Nov 12. Has been great up to last week when started getting tingling when waking up in morning. Has rapidly gone to severe pain and waking me up. Once the pain relents in the morning it seems fine 'til early hours of morning again. The pain has now become unbearable and is taking longer to clear as every day passes. The "severe" pain area is in my thumb and when it leaves the thumb it goes in to my ring finger. The pain is also in the rest of the fingers and the palm and wrist, but not as severe and is bearable. An added syptom that I haven't experienced before with CTS is having a 'cold' hand. The coldness seems to travel up my arm. I do suffer from Reynards (not sure of spelling - sorry). I am out of the country at the moment and not due home 'til Tuesday night (21 May). I would like to try another steroid injection please. Is it possible to book me in for an injection on Thursday 23 May?

We should be able to manage Thursday 23rd and that will give us a chance to review the situation and decide how to proceed as well. Can you make it along fairly early in the clinic? JB

Yes, no problem. What is earliest time you want me there as we are flexible on time? Most grateful for your quick response. Pauline

We usually get there about 8:45 or so, depending on traffic. JB

I had my third steriod injection in the left hand on Thursday 23rd May. After the injection my wrist became sore I put that down to bruising but there was no abnormal sensation in the hand at all.
I slept throughout the night with no disturbance from the hand at all. Approximately 10 mins after waking I began to get pins and nedles in the thumb and then the ring finger. This lasted a few mins in the ring finger and aprrox 15 mins in the thumb. My wrist was still a little sore. Once the pins and needles stopped everything became totally normal and lasted throughout the night. The following morning pins and needles returned in my thumb, but only lasted for about 5 mins. Since then the hand has been totally normal no pins and needles or pain etc. So at the moment the steriod injection has been a total success.
Thank you so much it's such a relief getting rid of so much pain. PAF

That's about 24-48 hours to take effect then overall. I presume the soreness in the wrist has settled in that time as well? JB

Seems to have settled. However I have had an odd twinge on a couple of occasions. PAF

Hi Jeremy just a quick update to say that all remains fine in both hands. For the last few days I have spent five or six hours working in the garden using my hands to do weeding flower beds etc. albeit i have had a pain in my left wrist I do not believe this is due to CTS but more from the work I have been doing. I am sleeping throughout the night with no pain or pins and needles. I have been wearing my splints whilst in the garden and I feel that theese give me good support, although it may be my imagination. Unfortunately I have worn the splints out quite badly. Would it be possible for you to give me another pair? Will keep you informed if any change. PAF

You can drop in and collect another pair of splints anytime in working hours. Just bring the old ones with you and we can transfer the aluminium stiffener to a new outer of the same size. it rather sounds as though you are trying to test your carpal tunnels to destruction - don't go too wild on the gardening.
