Return of symptoms
11 June 2013 - 12:42am
I have had three (I think) cortisone injections in my right hand, the last of which was in October 2012 before I went to Paris for six months. In April 2013, while I was away, I managed to fall over while skating and sprained my right wrist. This has brought all the symptoms back in both hands with a vengeance, although the right hand is considerably worse than the left. I'm having pain, tingling and numbness most of the day in the right hand. Last time we saw each other, you suggested it might be time for the operation on my right hand. I'm all for it. When can it be done?
Thank you.
I think we decided on injection last time rather than surgery mainly on grounds of convenience. I would guess that this situation has probably not changed greatly but it would be as well to check the nerve conduction studies again before making a decision if the symptoms feel a lot worse at present. If there is a clear deterioration in nerve function then I would definitely go for surgery. If the results are much the same then the options are more open. There is one space in the clinic on 20th June when we could test it if you are able to make it, and we would also have the opportunity to re-inject it then - either as a quick fix while waiting for surgery or as the chosen further treatment.
