Pain in wrist 5 weeks post op

I had surgery on 28/6/25. All has gone well and the site has healed, but I have pain in my wrist now. If feels a lot like something is pushing onto my wrist from the outside - sorry, don't know how else to describe it! It aches most of the time too. Is this usual? My doctor doesn't seem too knowledgeable on carpal tunnel surgery, so I'm hoping the lovely Dr Bland will be able to offer advice. Has anyone here has the same sort of thing?

Wrist pain following carpal tunnel surgery is quite common and mosty settles within a year or so but about 5% of patients have permanent problems - did the surgeon not warn you of this when taking consent? It is usualy aggravated by pressure on the heel of the hand with the wrist extended, as when supporting your weight doing push-ups for example and is usually a direct consequence of the surgeon doing what they set out to do, ie cutting the transverse carpal ligament, rather than them getting anything wrong. There are other causes of wrist pain of course but that is probably the most likely explanation soon after surgery. JB
