So that's about 4 weeks. If you want to go earlier than that we can inject on a Thursday morning if you can get to the Canterbury clinic. Your choice. JB

I'm just sorry it was such a busy clinic - that was a particularly bad one on Thursday as we started off with a lot injections and a patient with a very unusual problem. Let me know how it feels after a week please. JB

hello.

its been a week since both my steroid injections and i have seen a real difference.i have slight pain still in right arm a wrist but nothing on the scale that it was.i am not taking pain killers for this at the moment so that for me is a improvement, just how long it lasts is what we shall have to wait and see.

Well that's progress. We should now wait until about 6 weeks post injection and review the situation again. If you can manage to do another symptom severity questionnaire here on the website now and then another one in 6 weeks that would be great. JB

ok.will do i have noticed today pains starting to creep back in my right arm.itll be two weeks tomorrow

Hopefully it's not returning that quickly. I'll wait for the six week report and then we will decide what to do next. JB

It is indeed quite likely that it will come back at some point but with luck not for some time. Just let me know on here if and when it does become a problem. JB

i am starting to feel pain in both arms this is how it all started

Looks like we might be heading for surgery. Back when we started with this you had a pain in the right forearm and your right arm was considerably worse than the left overall despite the fact that the nerve conduction results looked worse on the left - did that definitely go away after injection. If so then you should get the same relief from surgery if all goes well. What do you think? JB

kepenek1@aol.com

GOOD MORNING,
yes it did go away after the injection but the pain has slowly returned, fingers have been swollen no pins a needles thou, but i noticed my rings dont fit ,not sure if this is the arthritus or cps.i think you are right this problem isnt going to go away.the pain is in the right arm again however i am noticing some pain in the left.the nights are horrible too laying with your arm straight is painful.

There are still some decidedly odd symptoms for CTS then. I think we will book you a slot for surgery in primary care, as long as you are not on warfarin, but I will also arrange to test you again before than so that I can have a further look at you and think about it. Appointments will be in the post today. JB

kepenek1@aol.com

im not sure if the pain comes from arthritus aswell as the cps.my wrist is sticking out alot the actual wrist bone on the right side you did say i had one wrist bigger than the other so i think this is arthritus.i am not on warfin,i am happy to do as you suggest, the pain is not nice at all,and i cannot lift things with my right arm.i await my appointments.

kind regards

Not a typical one but it is hard to tell exactly what you are describing - people seem to mean a variety of different things by 'cramp'. JB

kepenek1@aol.com

my fingers cramp a i cant move them a they look deformed until it releases, yet again im not sure if this is cps or my arthritus

The commonest cause of inability to move one or more fingers in patients with CTS is trigger digit (stenosing tenosynovitis) - which you can read about on the site here. People also get stiffness of the fingers with a variety of tendon, joint and nerve problems however so the range of possibilities is quite wide - one of those things that you really need to see to have any real chance of making a diagnosis. I've managed to bring your surgery date forwards 4 weeks to 2nd November. I tried to call you this morning to check that this was OK but you were out so I've booked it and we will put an appointment letter in the post tomorrow morning with the new dates and times. I usually try not advertise exact surgery dates on here but I think in this circumstance I need to be sure that you get the right message. JB

It continues to puzzle us how variable pain on injection is, and how unpredictable. Let me know how long it takes to settle down please. JB

kepenek1@aol.com

its settled down now ocassionally i get a ouch moment but its not prolonged, much better.

Thanks for the update. So that's about 5-6 days - one of the longer reports of post-injection pain. At some point we should try to get a group of patients to keep a daily diary post-injection and get a proper quantitative idea of what the pattern and occurrence of symptoms after injection is.JB

hi.

had my surgery sat 26th oct, surgery went well ,have some discomfort but no real bad pain, the surgeon did say mine is a little trial and error as we dont know how much pain is cts and how much is down to my arthritus.
everyone was lovely ,am doing finger exercises although its still very stiff cant completely bend fingers but i know its early days.
thought i would update you

Thankyou - I always like to hear how people are getting on, good or bad. It's often possible to tell even at this point whether or not the CTS symptoms have responded to surgery - is it feeling better? JB

Thankyou. Try to keep the fingers moving a little - helps to stop the tendons sticking I think. JB

hi
i am getting alot of pain from the palm of my hand.i have showed my gp a she suggested i refer myself back to you
sometimes it swells but its very hard to the touch,i cannot put any pressure on it for example when getting out the bath i cannot use the hand. of a night i find it hard to get comfortable with the pain, the tingling a numbness has stopped however this is a new type of pain in a new area.
i most definately have a weakness there now.its been several weeks since my op

I'll send out an appointment so that I can take a look at that but you rmay just be one of the unlucky ones suffering the side effects of the operation. I'll try to fit you in as soon as I can. JB
