Very painful hand

Over the past few weeks I have noticed that after using my hands especially right, to do gardening cleaning etc, they have become extremely painful at night. The pain is across my knuckles and my fingers from knuckles to tips go numb this can take an hour to recover. I have tried using splints again which have offered some relief. I am now concerned after reading the forum, if I wait until the autumn for an operation I may be doing more damage and the operation may not be so successful. Can you advise please

It was only grade 1 on each side when we tested in May and it is not likely to suddenly advance to a stage at which the outcome of treatment would be compromised unless you do something drastic to it like fall and break your wrist to provoke an acute deterioration. So far as I can see the last time we spoke you were undecided about surgery. At the moment I could find you a space on 17th August for operation but that may not be available for long. There is still the alternative of injecting again and we also have to keep in the mind the possibility that the latest symptoms could be a different problem altogether - pain across the knuckles is not completely typical of CTS. Thank you for your reply. On the days I have to use my hands excessively they are far worse and I have a constant tingling from the wrist through to the fingers and my right thumb feels cold. The right wrist aches. Unfortunately due to commitments I would be unable to do 17th August, but thank you for the offer. If there is a possibility it is not all connected to CT should I be asking my GP for further tests? Could I try another injection to see if it relieves the symptoms? Many thanks

With two previous injections to one side and three to the other by my count we are getting into territory where the risks associated with injection are unknown but given the relatively mild nature of the neurophysiological abnormality last time it would probably still be an option to inject once more to see how it affects the current symptoms if you want to try that and don't mind indulging in something of an experiment. Thank you for your swift response. I have been reading the forum and note other patients with similar symptoms have had 4 or 5 injections with relative success, as my right hand is now tingling all day, I think I would like to consider another injection. Do I need to contact Dr Miles at Wye surgery?

There are not many hands getting beyond 3 injections. At some point I will get around to posting the graph of the numbers on here so that people can see how little experience we have with third and subsequent injections compared to the first two. You can however arrange another one by calling the SIPC office as before to arrange it. (numbers in the contacts page) JB
