update of progress

Hi Dr bland
just to update you following my initial appointment in June this year. There has been a definite improvement since wearing the splints at night. Not waking up with the same degree of numbness. Occasional burning pain usually following lots of lifting or gardening. .
Many thanks
Jenny M.

Thanks for the update. How are the splints themselves holding up - not fallen apart yet? JB

When you decide they are worn out you can always pick up a new pair by dropping into the department with the old ones - we can just swap the aluminium support into a new outer of the same size. Of course when you get fed up with splints there is always the option of injection or surgery (or the ultrasound trial for that matter). JB

That's good to know thanks.

Please could I have some info regarding the ultrasound trial. ?

Many Thanks

We need about 40 people who have not yet been treated with anything other than splints and simple analgesia, who have mild to moderate (grade 3 or less) CTS and who can spare enough time to come for the treatment in Canterbury - 5 days a week for two weeks then 2 days a week for 5 weeks. Usually early morning or early evening for about 20 minutes each time. It is a placebo controlled, randomized, double blind trial so you would have a 50/50 chance of getting real or sham ultrasound - harmless either way - and we are aiming to follow up patients for 1 year.
