Swelling of the hand after injection

Hello

I had my right wrist injected this morning.
It was numb for a while from anaesthetic
but after a while became a bit painful and swollen especially
Near the thumb and bottom of the palm, the dr said it would be painful
But no mention of swelling is this ok?

That's not an injection I have arranged is it? - none of our injecting doctors are supposed to add a local anaesthetic so there should be no numbness. Swelling is unusual and I think I would need to see it to decide whether it means anything very much or not but as you are not formally my patient I can't really help at present. I'm not sure I approve of telling people that it will be painful before doing it either - they usually are not, and building up anxiety about it is likely to make it worse. JB

Heya, yes I am your patient and was going to have it done
In wye but recently had surgery on my back and couldn't make the appointment, my
GP told me to ring and cancel it until I was a bit better and mobile,
But told me I didn't need to go to wye as we have a dr at the surgery that will do it when I had recovered a bit.
It seems to have gone down quite a lot this morning it's only a little painful and a little swollen at the bottom of the
Palm opposite side to the thumb. Should I have not had it done with a GP from the surgery?
I just did what the GP said but does this mean I'm not your patient anymore?
Thank you for your quick reply

Odd! my records do not show me arranging injection for you - I might have missed recording it if I had the discussion about treatment with you in a very busy clinic. In general I do prefer it if injections are done by the select group of GPs we have trained to do it. They all use the same steroid, the same dose, more or less the same approach and they all provide me with structured follow-up information on what happens after injection - the few 'independents' who go it alone and do it themselves give me none of that consistency, documentation or follow-up. I'm in London at a meeting at present but when I get access to my Canterbury records again I'll look and see what other documentation we have scanned on the system and see if I can figure out whose patient you really are at present. Then I will add to this message thread. I'm glad it sounds as though the hand is improving though. JB

I've now had a look at the records. They are a bit rudimentary I'm afraid. At the time we last tested you, you were not actually my patient to treat but some telephone conversations were then recorded with Dr Fernandez and the upshot seems to have been a request for me to arrange treatment, hence the injection in Wye. I don't seem to have any record of our conversation about it though, sorry! - did we do that by telephone or did you come back in to see me again? If it was the latter then I seem not to have made any notes of it which is pretty remiss of me. Hopefully it is still improving at present? JB
