Post op
Had surgery yesterday but today I have got tingling and numbness in some of my fingers. Is this normal until have healed properly as I thought that after surgery all the symptoms would go?
Regards
Vicky
The thing to try and assess is whether the sense of touch is getting any better, trying to ignore the tingling. If it's unclear whether it's improving or not in a few weeks we will test it again to ensure that nerve function is actually on the mend. Recovery is usually almost instantaneous with surgery up to about grade 3 but above that it can be slower. JB
When can I take the big bandage off? Had op Friday, discharge summary says 48 hours whereas the leaflet says 1 week so unsure now.
Regards vicky
48 hours should be fine but I'll get Nick to post here tomorrow morning. JB
Between 2 days and a week dependant on your symptoms and level of activity. I tend to err on the side of caution and advice 5 - 7 days as taking it off too early can give rise to some minor complications. The bandage is there to apply some pressure to the wound to prevent post operative bleeding/bruising.
If the CTS was very bad before surgery you can get some tingling post-op as sensation improves - I think yours was grade 5 was it not? JB
