NHS Innovations Challenge Prizes - Film

For the last few years there has been an annual competition for 'bright ideas' in the NHS, with awards for innovative developments in each of several areas - one of which recently has been diagnostics. Carpal-tunnel.net is a finalist in the 2013 competiton, the final result of which will be announced in November. The challenge prizes people want to make a short film about each of the finalists and ideally would like to feature a patient who has used the site and been tested and treated for CTS by us. The most obvious thing I think would be to use a patient who has been treated by injection and who is coming back for re-test and review and who therefore knows what to expect and how the clinic and website interact. If any patient would like to 'star' in such a film and is currently suffering a relapse of their CTS would they please let me know here. You can read about the challenge prizes HERE. JB

Hello. I'm interested in helping out with this if you think I am a good candidate.

Yes I think you are a pretty good candidate, though I'm not sure if you originally did the questionnaire online on the website before your first visit to the clinic. We are currently thinking of trying to film on the afternoon of Thursday 7th November so we would re-test you then and film the nerve conduction studies and some ultrasound imaging as well as an interview. Are you available then? JB

I definitely did an online questionnaire - in My CTS for 05/01/2012 are the results. I am available on 7th November.

Got it now - you didn't have your Canterbury reference ID recorded in your account on the site so it wasn't linked to my hospital records. You fall into a group of people with low scores and mild CTS. I'll check with the film-makers on Monday if we are definitely on for the 7th. JB

Also, I have arranged with you that I pop in on Monday to pick up splints etc. If the filming goes ahead, would it be better to collect the splints on the 7th instead?

I would probably drop in on Monday anyway - gives us a chance to talk, unless you are very pressed for time. JB

Hello Dr Bland, Could you confirm for me please that it is 3pm-ish this Thursday that we agreed on?

Yes we still seem to be set up for 3:00pm if that's OK with you. I was going to call later and check but if you've seen this message that will suffice. I have no real idea how long it will take I'm afraid. JB

The film is now complete, the prizes awarded and the dust is settling. There is a link from the home page of this site through to the video if you want to take a look. JB
