Re udate:- carpal tunnel
I am wearing my supports for as long as possible but on wednesday 15th after my appointment on tuesday i had a spasm in my left hand,it happened at work but i was able to relieve that eveningit just left my fingers stiff and slightly painful for work on thursday 16th jan. Because of the type of work i do it was not long before i had another spasm, this was like thatof the spasm i had on thursday 9th jan these lasted the rest of the day and all night(lots of pain pluss swelling and no sleep). In both cases i have hat to have the next day off. I have seen a gp and i am taking naproxan 500mg twice a day and tramadol 50mg 1or2 tablets every 6 hours.
Have been to doctors as reqested have had blood tests for magneezium calcium and phyroid problems all came back clear
Have also had neck xrays on left side, results found neck bones close together wear nerve travells between for left hand.
have been perscribed gabapentin 300mg 3 times a day for a trial period, as well as the anti-inflammatory naproxen 250 mg
1 tablet twice daily.
OK, it's possible that could be a result of problems in your neck. See how it responds to gabapentin for a week and then if there are still problems I will take another look at you. I'm not promising any dramatic insights but we will do our best. JB
That particular symptom is not typical of CTS and generally we would only advise using splints at night unless you specifically find them helpful during the day. If this persists and your GP is not able to be certain what it is then I might have to see you again as I think it is impossible to fully assess that from the online forum. If it is bad enough to be keeping you off work the following day it should not be too difficult to arrange to see you.
I've removed your reference number from the posting as they should not be public and I'll also move this discussion thread into the Canterbury patients forum in a day or two. It's better if all conversations with my patients are kept in the same place. JB
