That does indeed sound like trigger thumb - common in people who have had CTS and also treatable by steroid injetion or surgery. Your GP should be able to refer you to the hand surgeons for that if they cannot do trigger digit injections in house. JB

Thankyou that's what I thought, could you check it out for me ? Rather than my gp

My clinic is pretty much limited to treating CTS I'm afraid. If your GP cannot deal with it themselves then it will require a hand surgery referral, sorry but this is the world of superspecialist medicine - my competence is very limited and does not extend beyond recognising trigger digits when I see them. You sorted out both of my carpel tunnel operations.

That's a shame I have confidence in you.

There is also a further complication at pesent in that you are an Ashford patient and for the moment the official body responsible for paying for your healthcare - the Ashford CCG - has decided that it would prefer not to make use of my clinic even to treat CTS. If you read some of the information here on the site you should get some idea of what is going on as a result of the latest round of government changes to the NHS. JB

I think surgically it is a minor procedure a bit like carpal tunnel decompression but most people try steroids before resorting to the knife - though injections for trigger digits do have a tendency to be a bit more painful than the carpal tunnel injection. There's a page of this site devoted to a discussion of the curious co-existence of trigger digits, Dupuytren's and CTS. JB
