Dear dr bland

Sorry to be a pain but I don't know what to do with myself, the pain is getting so severe up both my arms that I don't know what to do. I was awake all night last night with it, feels like cramp and Aching constantly and I'm so tired.

Have tried avoiding using my crutches but nothing is helping. Would appreciate your advice

I'm sorry but I don't have any immediately helpful suggestions beyond the things we have discussed already and I think we are rather dependent on the hand clinic for the naxt step. We will try to find out how appointments are progressing on Monday. JB

Dr bland

Just found out today that I have been put down as routine to see mr smith which means I could wait anything upto 13 weeks to see him. I'm in agony and don't think I can wait that long. Is there anything I can do?

Regards

Try calling the patient service centre and tell them how severe the pain is. We think his queue is actually more like 6 weeks at present though. JB

I have but they said consultant has looked and marked as routine.

Is it normal to have no feeling in the arm constantly? Since last night I have lost all feeling in right arm and hand to the point I can't pick anything up or grip anything

Routine doesn't necessarily mean a 13 week wait though - that's just the target they are working to. It's hard to assess the loss of feeling in the arm remotely - you seem to be decribing a change in sensation to start with but then go on to something that sounds more like weakness - two rather different neurological symptoms - is it one or both? It's both, numbness which means can't feel it

If it is actually weak, in the sense of not being able to move it, then you should see your GP as that is not likely to result from either the CTS or the ulnar nerve problem except in a very limited sense in the hand, and then only usually when the nerve problems are very advanced. One would therefore have to take that as a new symptom. It's very hard to guess what one might find examining the arm from a description however. JB
